Anniversary Celebration with Pikes Peak and Cake!

We decided to do our fun anniversary celebration on Tuesday the 29th. We woke up early and drove to Manitou Springs where we found Barr Trail. It was pretty busy for a tuesday; the parking lot was full! So we had to park a little ways down the road. We only had about five hours to hike so I could get back in time for my appointment. I really wanted to be able to make it to Barr Camp (about half-way up the mountain) before we had to turn around. I tried to hike at a good speed and it was rough, a lot of uphill!
Towards the beginning of the hike
When we saw these cool rocks we decided to stop and take a break for pictures
We thought and talked about turning around early thinking we might not have enough time to make it to Barr Camp and back. The further we hiked, Darren's desire to make it to the camp rapidly decreased, but me being stubborn and determined, we continued on. It took us about three hours to get to Barr Camp (about 6-7 miles there).
We had about two hours to get back down. At first going down hill felt great, but after a while it just felt miserable. We were so exhausted after the hike!! Thankfully I made it to my appointment on time. :) Later that day I picked up our anniversary cake. The bakery where we got our wedding cake makes you an anniversary cake one year later for free (except for German Chocolate which costs a little over $3). And yes, we got german chocolate, yum!!

So worn out from that hike haha
